March 17 - 21

Thank you to all who joined me for Student Learning conferences.  I really enjoyed sharing all the progress your child has made since the January report cards.

Thank you to the School Council for funding our field trip to the Calgary Zoo.  A big thank you to all of the volunteers who came with us.  The students and I really appreciate it.

Here are a few pictures from our day:

I Can Create Create Instructions for a Robot to Achieve a Desired Outcome

This week we have been working with Tale-Bot Pro robots to learn about coding.  Students program the movement of robots using forward, back, left, right, and repeat.  So far we have been working on creating virtual community walks, trips to the zoo, and have started creating mazes for the robots to navigate.  Some students this week even got a chance to experiment with having the robots draw pictures.  We have been learning about this basic coding as part of our unit on Computer Science.

The Tale-Bot Pro Robots have been lent to us from the ATA (Alberta Teachers' Association) library.

Litearacy:

This week we reviewed digraphs and started working with the long vowels 'a' and 'i' with the pattern a_e and i_e.

Our new heart words is: who

February 24 to 28

This week we welcomed Mrs. Lange to our classroom.  Mrs. Lange is a second year pre-service teacher from St. Mary's University.  This is her final practicum before graduating.  She is really looking forward to working more with our class over the next few months.

We also had an amazing assembly in honour of pink shirt day!  Everyone was amazing and did a great job sharing a message of kindness and caring with the rest of the school!  I will put the video of the classroom book we created to share how we can do one act of kindness in Google Classroom.  We took it out of the assembly in order to accommodate where we were standing during the assembly.

I Can Use Drawing Tools to Create Shapes and I Can Use Paint in Combination with Other Media and Techniques

Mrs. Lange led us through a multi-media art project where students created a background with water colours. Then they created hot air balloons with 2D shapes and coloured it with pencil crayons.  Once finished, students glued the balloons on to the background and added some cotton balls for clouds.

Literacy:

This week we worked with -ng and -nk.

Our new heart words were: could, would, should, or, for
