This week students enjoyed a special visitor in our classroom.  Harvey the Hound joined us for a body break after the assembly!

I Can Relate How Instructions Impact an Outcome:

This week we started working with coding robots that are on lone to us from the ATA library.  This week we just took the opportunity to figure out how to get them to move where we want them to go.

I Can Interpret 3D Objects / I Can Recognize and Create Symmetry on 2D Shapes

We continued our geometry investigation by exploring the attributes of 3D objects.  We created different 3D objects with toothpicks and playdough.  While doing so, we learned about the attributes of 3D objects - edges, faces, and vertices.

We also created a special Valentine's Day heart after learning about the concept of symmetry.

Literacy:

This week we added the digraph ch /ch/.

Our new heart words were "walk" and "talk".

I Can Investigate Direction, Pathway, and Speed of objects.

This week we worked on our culminating project for our science unit, "Energy".  We have been learning about the movement of animals and objects and how we can influence them.  For our project, we created mini-golf courses.

We started off by researching how mini-golf was played.  We noticed that courses often had themes and thought about how we might incorporate it into our designs.  We sketched out courses and thought about how we could incorporate theme, obstacles, and movement pathways.  We planned what materials we would need and then got to work building.

After we finished building our holes, we set up a course and everyone got a chance to play all of the holes.  We even kept score!  Next week we tally up our scores to see how we all did.

Literacy:

This week we learned about digraphs - two consonants that work together to make one sound.  We have started to read words with the letter patterns ck, th, and sh.

We also added the heart words: we, she, they, their,
